early and modern atmosphere Flashcards
What percentage of Nitrogen is there in the earth’s atmosphere?
78% Nitrogen
What percentage of Oxygen is there in the earth’s atmosphere?
21% Oxygen
What percentage of Noble Gases is there in the earth’s atmosphere?
1% Noble Gases
What percentage of Carbon Dioxide is there in the earth’s atmosphere?
0.03% Carbon Dioxide
How did Nitrogen levels increase?
Ammonia was released from volcanic activity which then broke down into Nitrogen.
How did Carbon Dioxide levels decrease and Oxygen levels increase?
Plants started to photosynthesis, They took in the Carbon Dioxide and released Oxygen making the Carbon Dioxide levels decrease and Oxygen levels increase.
How did our oceans form?
Water vapour was released by volcanic activity, overtime the earth became cool and the water vapour condensed.
Carbon Dioxide + Water —> Glucose + Oxygen
6CO2 + 6H2O —-> C2H12O6 + 6O2
What did volcanoes produce?
Ammonia, Carbon Dioxide and Water vapour
What gases were present in the Early atmosphere? From Most abundant to Least abundant.
Water Vapour, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen
What gases were present in the Modern atmosphere? From Most abundant to Least abundant and write down the percentages.
Nitrogen 78%, Oxygen 21%, Noble gases 1% and Carbon Dioxide 0.03%
