what is a prediction?
a statement of what may happen based o prior knowledge or guesswork
what is a hypothesis?
statement providing an explanation or prediction based on knowledge or testable by experiment
what is the independent variable?
the variable that is chosen to be changed
what is the dependent variable?
what is observed/measured
what is the controlled/standardised variable?
variables that you keep the same
how do you make a 1% sugar solution?
solution with 1g of sugar for every 100g of water
what is continuous data?
set of data in which any individual reading can have any value between the two extremes
what is discrete data?
a set of data in which each measurement can only belong to one of a limited number of values
what is ordinal data?
set of data which values aren’t numerical, results arranged in a sequence
what is nominal data?
set of data which individual results can’t be arranged in sequence, instead each assigned to a distinct category
what is a control experiment?
experiment in which factor whose effect is being investigated is absent, used as a standard of comparison
