Practical Procedure Flashcards
What are the 7 steps
Observation Quick touch AROM PROM RROM Resisted full range Palpation
What is the purpose of Quick Touch and how is it performed?
To assess physical signs without causing pain or discomfort
Use back of hand, uninjured then injured, look for temperatures, texture
What do you do for “Observation” and what are you looking for?
Look from all sides moving around athlete
Look for posture, symmetry, muscle tone
What is AROM
Where the athlete performs the movement themselves
The athlete moves the joints together so you can compare
What is PROM
where the athlete lets you move the joint through full ROM
An over pressure should be performed at end range
What is RROM
Place joint at midrange
Apply a gentle over pressure and get the athlete to match your resistance
Intrinsic
Then assess RROM at beginning and end of range
What is resisted full range?
Assessed the muscles ability to contract with movement through its full range
Check uninjured then injured
What is the oxford scale and what’re the differences between contractions 0-5
0/5 is no contraction
1/5 is visible muscle contraction but no movement
2/5 is movement with gravity eliminated
3/5 is movement with gravity only
4/5 is movement with gravity and some resistance
5/5 is movement against gravity with full resistance
