13.6 Principal 5 - Build Incrementally from firm foundations
Pg. 73
In practical terms, the Project Manager needs to ensure that members of the project team:
• Carry out appropriate analysis and enough design up front to create strong foundations for all subsequent work
• Formally reassess priorities and infomally reassess ongoing project viability with each delivered Increment
13.7 Principle 6 - Develop Iteratlevly
Build feedback into each iteration
Recognize that most detail should emerge later, not sooner
Embrace change - the right solution will not evolve without it
13.8 Principle 7 - COmmunicate Continously and clearly
In practical terms, the Project Manager needs to ensure that members of the project team:
Make full and proper use of the OSOM practices such as Workshops, Modelling and features of the process such
asTimeboxing and the associated daily stand-ups to communicate amongst themselves
Provide opportunity for anybody who is interested to keep themselves in formed of what is happening on a
project by making the activity and outputs of the OSOM practices visible
Keep documentation lean and timely and ensure that it is only created where it adds genuine value to the
development or support of the solution
Manage the expectations of the stakeholders at all levels throughout the project - ideally by involving them in the
OSOM process (e.g. inviting them to end of time box demonstrations) rather than by creating a parallel stream
of written progress reports
• Always aim for honesty and transparency in all communication within and external to the project team
13.9 Principle 8 - Demonstrate Control
Make progress visible to all
Measure progress through focus on delivery of products instead of completed activities
Use an appropriate level of formality for tracking and reporting. allowing project-level roles to continually assess the
viability of the project
