what are the contraindications to waxing?
A
- Is using Accutane (do not wax for 1 year) / Retin A / other retinol products
- Has recently undergone a chemical peel
- Recent laser treatment
- Shows symptoms of sun-damage, redness, irritation.
- Has recently had a sunbed treatment.
- Shows signs of hypersensitive / vascular skin (DO NOT WAX OVER VARICOUSE VEINS).
- Have cuts, open wounds or abrasions in the area to be waxed.
- Has an outbreak of herpes.
- Has diabetes, hemophiliacs.
- Eczema, psoriasis, skin tags, moles or warts.
- Recently used blood thinning medications.
- Has autoimmune disorders(AIDS, lupus).
- Has any contagious infectious disease

what should you do before beginning the service?
A
- Sanitize treatment area, cover bed with paper
- Check wax pots to make sure they’re working
- Wash hands and wear gloves
- Go over health history form with client (ask questions)
- Explain the treatment to the client including expected sensations and results

Describe the general waxing procedure
A
- Prepare area to be waxed with pre/post-treatment
- Test the wax on your wrist to ensure the temperature is appropriate
- Use a clean spatula to apply wax in the same direction of hair growth
- Remove wax in the direction opposite to hair growth
- Clean off excess wax using the strip
- Apply post-treatment

Tips to remember
A
- Wear gloves when performing any waxing treatment
- If the hair is too long, have the client trim it.
- Prepare and sanitize the area
- Ensure client is slightly reclined.
- Never go over the same area twice. You could damage the skin.
- Always look at the area to see which way the hair is growing.
- Never double dip your spatula into the wax, use a clean one every time
- Get the most out of your wax strip by reusing it as much as you can
- Pull the skin taught when applying and removing the wax
- Hard wax needs to dry completely before removal
