Practical 1 Techniques Flashcards
TMJ BLT (pain on opening)
COMPRESS jaw, laterally move mandible direction of most ease, hold until release
TMJ BLT (pain on closing)
DECOMPRESS jaw, laterally move mandible direction of most ease, hold until release
Temporalis MFR
Assess F/E, sidebending, rotation
take to direct barrier for tissue release
Lateral jaw deviation MET
Translate jaw to opposite side of deviation to engage restrictive barrier, have pt translate jaw to neutral for iso
i.e Lt deviation = engage RB with Rt translation
S-curve deviation (temporalis, masseter, medial pterygoid hypertonicity) MET
Depress jaw to engage RB, have pt close jaw to neutral for iso
*these muscles close the jaw, so direct barrier will be found with opening jaw
S-curve deviation (digastrics, mylohyoid, lateral pterygoid hypertonicity) MET
Hold jaw closed to engage RB, have pt open jaw to neutral for iso
*these muscles open the jaw, so direct barrier will be found with closing jaw
Shoulder AC joint IR SD MET
Abduct arm to 90 and externally rotate to RB, do MET
Shoulder AC joint ER SD MET
Abduct arm to 90 and internally rotate to RB, do MET
Shoulder SC joint Adducted SD MET
Place arm into E and IR to engage RB, have pt raise arm for MET
Elevated SC = Adducted SC
Shoulder SC joint Extended SD MET
Place hand on physician shoulder with my hand under scapula, monitor SC with other hand, pull scapula anteriorly while applying posterior force to proximal SC, have pt retract scap against force for MET
Anterior SC = Extended SC
Lumbar MET
Step on opposite side of PTP (if upper lumbar) or PTP down (if lower lumbar), engage 3D direct barrier, do MET
Piriformis MET
Pt prone, flex knee to 90, apply lateral force at ankle, have pt ER hip with ankle for iso MET
