What is the ‘D’ in MRSGREND?
DNA
what does unicellular mean?
life forms consist of only one cell
What does multicellular mean?
life forms are made of many cells
What are the three parts of the cell theory?
- All living things are madeof one or more cells.
- Cells are the basic unit ofstructure and function inliving things.
- All cells come from pre-existing cells.
what is a prokaryotic cell?
single-celled organism that has no membrane bound organelles. They have no nucleus and have two types, bacterial and archaea cells.
what are cells?
cells are the basic functional and structural unit of life.
what is a eukaryotic cell?
they are any cell or organism with a membrane bound nucleus and other membrane bound organelles. Includes protist, fungi, plant and animal cells.
What makes up a plant cell?
part of a multicellular organism
has nucleus and organelles
has a cell wall and plasma membrane
has a structured shape
What is an animal cell?
Are a part of a multi-cellular organism
Have nucleus and organelles
Do not have cell walls (only cell membrane)
Do not have a structured shape
what is DNA?
nucleic acid containing four bases which forms the major component of chromosomes and contains coded genetic instructions.
what is an organelle?
Means ‘mini-organ’. Each organelle has a specific job, and they are all suspended in a jelly-like substance called the cytoplasm.
what is a bacteria cell?
a group of prokaryotes that can reproduce by binary fission
what is a prokaryotic capsule?
polysaccharide layer outside the cell membrane for protection
what is a archaea cell?
a group of prokaryotes that live in extreme environments; also known as extremophiles
