poxviridae Flashcards
1
Q
poxviridae general characteristics
genetic material
enveloped?
viruses
A
dsDNA
Enveloped
LARGE
avipoxvirus, cowpox
2
Q
Avipox
- types of dz virus causes
- method of transmission
- zoonotic?
- does it change/recombine/mutate
- distribution
- diagnosis
- differential diagnosis
- control
A
- Dry form: effects skin and nonfeathered areas, epidermal hyperplasia.
Wet form- cheesy plaques on mouth, pharynx, trachea
- mosquito vector, direct contact with lesions or fomites
- not zoonotic
4.
- eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusion bodies (bollinger bodies), virus isolation in eggs, EM
- vaccines are not very effective bc they are very species/strain specific. best is to isolate sick and control vector
3
Q
cowpox
- types of dz virus causes
- method of transmission
- zoonotic?
- does it change/recombine/mutate
- distribution
- diagnosis
- differential diagnosis
- control
A
- causes small papules with red ring around them (vesicles)
limited to europe and transmitted by rats/cats
dd= FMD, bovine herpes
IS ZOONOTIC
