Question 1

What is the inclusion criteria for call backs?

Answer 1

Must be APPROVED by treating REGISTRAR!!!

Patients in respiratory distress or deteriorating
- desaturating and/or increased oxygen requirements;
- unable to clear secretions independently or with nursing assistance
- increased respiratory rate/ stridor or obstruction

New high level spinal cord patients requiring immediate respiratory assessment and treatment

Question 2

What is the exclusion criteria for call backs?

Answer 2

• Routine suctioning
• Fracture management
• Philadelphia/Miami J collars
• Spirometry
• Mobility review
• Discharge assessments

Question 3

What to ask when being paged for call back?

Answer 3

HPI:
* Patient’s name, MRN, location, registrar’s name
* Diagnosis
* Have they seen by physio today?

Current respiratory Obs:
* What are the patient’s observations? SpO2, BP, temp, HR, RR
* Has a CXR been taken?
* Have they had ABGs?
* Do they have a moist cough, are they coughing up/clearing their own secretions?
* Any increasing oxygen requirements and what oxygen therapy are they on?
