Powerpoint 4 Flashcards
Definition of Dispensationalism
A theological view that sees the history of man in a series of segments “dispensations” where God brings blessing to the obedient and judgment to the disobedient. This view:
1) Holds a literal view of the Bible
2) Sees a distinction between the church and Israel in that God has a plan for both
3) Glory of God as the ultimate purpose for the world.
Dispensation Segments
Each segment contains testing, failure and judgment. Each segment (seven in all) can fall under three categories: Old Testament * Innocence – Genesis 1:28-3:6 * Conscience – Genesis 3:7-8:14 * Human Govt. – Genesis 8:15-11:9 * Promise – Genesis 11:10-Ex. 18:27 * Law/Israel – Ex. 19 – John 14:30 New Testament * Grace/Church – Acts 2:1 – Rev. 19:21 Kingdom * Kingdom – Rev. 20:1-15
MILLENNIUM – Christ’s Earthly Reign
Three Views
- Amillennialism
- Postmillennialism
- Premillennialism (Historical & Dispensational)
Millennium: Amillennialism
Christ’s current reign over the church. This present age (fallen world) is passing away. Christ’s kingdom is coming in full.
The millennial is now.
Hostility towards Christians will increase (tribulation).
Believers meet Jesus in the air.
Armageddon.
All descend to earth for final judgment.
Heaven or Hell.
Millennium: Postmillennialism
Sees the future as a forward, positive advancement of the church bringing the nations of the world into obedience to the LORD and His kingdom.
Millennial is spiritual: “Christ in you, hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).
Culture becomes Christian
Great Rebellion
Believers gathered with Jesus

- Judgment
- Heaven/Hell
Millennium: Premillennialism (Dispensational)

The Salvation Army’s position on Tribulation
The Salvation Army holds no definite doctrinal position on the tribulation. Further, any tribulation view refers to the ‘rapture’ as well as a literal ‘seven year’ period of persecution.
Pretribulation: Christ raptures the church before the great tribulation
Postribulation: Christ comes after the great tribulation
Other tribulation views:
- Mid: Church removed half-way through tribulation
- Partial: series of raptures
- Imminent: After but anytime if tribulation is happening
