What are the 3 Phases of Matter?
Solid, Gas, Liquid
What is the process from Solid to Gas?
Sublimation
What is the process from Solid to Liquid?
Melting
What is the process from Liquid to Solid?
Freezing
What is the process from Liquid to Gas?
Vaporization
What is the process from Gas to Solid?
Deposition
What is the process from Gas to Liquid?
Condensation
What is an element?
One type of atom, found on periodic table
What is a compound?
Multiple atoms bonded together that have defined chemical formulas
What is a Homogenous Mixture?
Uniform mixture, concentration changes the properties
What is a Heterogenous Mixture?
Chunky, unevenly mixed, or cloudy mixture
What are the 3 main methods of seperation?
Distillation, Filtration, and Chromatography
What does Distillation filter by?
The volatility or boiling point
What does Filtration filter by?
Particle size
What does Chromatography filter by?
Solubility, how well it dissolves
What are intensive properties?
Properties that are independent on the amount. (boiling point)
What are extensive properties?
Properties that are dependent on the amount. (weight)
What are chemical properties?
Chemical properties describe how a substance interacts with other substances and changes its chemical structure
What are physical properties?
Physical properties describe characteristics that can be observed or measured without changing the substance’s chemical identity.
