Power Plant Flashcards
Primary thrust indicator for the jet engine is….
N1
If one igniter should fail during engine start, what happens (2 possibilities)…
- if FADEC selected the good igniter then engine starts normally
- if FADEC selected the failed igniter then no engine start
When is the ignition activated during normal engine start….
By moving the throttle to IDLE at 8% N2 and N1 rotation
By what are the ignition and boost pump operation terminated normally….
When the speed sensing switch on the starter generator measures aprox 45% N2
When is power automatically applied to the igniters when the IGNITION switch is in NORM…
When the start button is depressed and the throttle is in idle or above
What happens if the N1 shaft fan shifts aft…
The engine shuts down automatically
Loss of normal DC power, what engine instruments will be still available…
N1 rpm on stby LCD digital display
Ops of ENG SYNC switch…
ON after takeoff and on for the remainder of the flight (although on the panel it says it must be off for landing as well, also in the checklist)
What does a green light beside starter button means….
Confirms that one or both igniters are powered
What types of oil are allowed for the engine
Mobil Jet II or Mobil 254
What happens when the left or right fuel filter is bypassed….
Contaminated fuel may be blocking the left engine fuel filter. The L or R FUEL FILTER BYPASS annunciator illuminates. A flame out might be possible.
Inflight. Windmilling. Engine vents oil overboard, typical consumption?
0.2 gallons per hour or aprox 0.8 quarts per hour
