Power Flashcards
What components make up a fuse cartridge?
End caps
Fuse wire
Transparent casing
What makes up a HRC Fuse Link
Fuse wire
Quarts powder
Casing
What makes up the power triangle
Power (P = I x V)
Current (I = P / V)
Voltage (V = P / I)
What is the unit of electrical power
Watts (W)
How many watts is in one horsepower
746W
How does a HRC Fuse work
When an HRC fuse blows, the quarts powder melts and fills the gap between the two ends of the fuse wire. Quarts is an insulator, so now no arc is possible
Why is all electrical equipment earthed to the bull of the ship?
For safety to prevent a possible lethal electric shock
Three things can cause an earth fault in a circuit?
Dampness
Brittle or hard insulation caused by heat or age
Accidental damage
What is the electrical potential of the sea?
0 volts
What is the two types of fuse?
Cartridge fuse
High rapturing capacity fuse (HRC Fuse)
Which path does electricity take?
The path of least resistance
Electrical power depends on:
Number of electron to be moved
Rate at which they are made to travel
