To highlight dependency culture and to evoke negative stereotypes of beggars and ghettos

Economic changes which created unemployment in the city and policies specifically put people already disadvantaged in a certain area

Concentrated inner-city ghettos

Specific urban housing estates

Because it is passed from one generation to another
What does underclass homogenises mean?
The diverse group of people who face different problems and have different responses to these situations
What is an example of underclass homogenises?
Migrant workers in fish factories, hotels and hospitality industries, were placed in certain areas of towns in North Scotland because they were assumed to be working class people (poor and same sort of group)
Why are divisions created within the poor?
Young white men often displace the anger and frustration at their structural circumstances by blaming women and black people
Who is more likely to be in poverty in the UK?
Women as they are paid less and more likely to be part time workers.
