Poor harvests reduced the food supply which meant there was a higher demand for a limited supply of food. Inflation occurred.

Previous monarchs reduced the amounts of gold in counts therefore money has lost its value on the period. Therefore, shopkeepers charged more as they did not trust it.

What does enclosure mean
Enclosure of land meant common land was danced off, so this land was no longer available for people to grow food on. Larger farmers led to more efficient farming methods which meant there were fewer farming jobs
What did enclosure mean do for jobs?
reduced them increasing the competition for employment
What did the demand for wool mean ?
more land was used for rearing sheep rather than producing food which put more pressure on the price of food as it was in high demand but in limited supply. It was a profitable enterprise
what did sheep farming mean for work?
it required less labourers so there was less work available for farm workers.
When the wool trade collapsed in the 1560’s it led to mass unemployment
what was the effect of the conflict with spain?
led to embargos (ban on trades) which drove prices up and damaged jobs
What was vagrancy and vagabondage?
people travelled around looking for work . This increased petty crime and theft.
why was vagrancy and vagabondage a challenge?
presented a challenge to the authorities because vagrants moved around a lot and they were hard to control or punish
what did vagabondage mean?
travelling without destination
