Potentiometry Flashcards
1
Q
Equipment required ‘to do’ potentiometry…
A
- high input impedance voltmeter
- reference electrode
- indicator electrode
2
Q
Ion selective electrode (ISE)
A
electrochemical half cell. The voltage (which arises across a membrane where only the intended ions can interact) will vary depending on the activity of a specific ion
3
Q
Glass membrane electrode
A
Used for the measurement of pH. Have special ‘doped’ glass membranes that are sensitive to specific analyses in solution
4
Q
Liquid membrane electrode
A
Potential develops between a liquid ion exchanger (that selectively binds to the analyze ion) and a solution containing the analyte
5
Q
Solid state (crystal) membrane
A
membrane made from a single ionic compound, or a homogeneous mixture of ionic compounds.
