potential difference in a parallel circuit Flashcards
How do the potential difference of components in parallel circuits differ to the potential difference of components in series circuits
Components connected in parallel, the potential difference across each component stays the same, whereas the p.d of components in series circuits add up to the total p.d leaving the cell.
would components connected in parallel in a parallel circuit have the same voltage?
yes
Two lamps are in series. The 2 lamps are parallel to another lamp in the branch above,
the p.d leaving the cell is 12V
the p.d of the lamp in parallel to the 2 lamps in series has a p.d/voltage of 12V
The p.d of one of the lamps in series is 7V
What is the p.d/voltage of the lamp in series to the lamp with 7V?
5V
this is because components in parallel have the same voltage
components in series both have a p.d that adds up to the total Voltage leaving the cell.
