Q

how do changes in K impact pH

A

during acidosis there is too many H atoms in the ICF so K moves out to even the postive charge

Q

Hypo-k causes

A
alcholism
malnutrition
diurtics
direhha
vomiting for long time
insulin admistration
Mg def
DKA- diabetic ketoacidosis- this is treated with insulin and when glu goes into the cell so does K so that changes levels outside

Q

hypo- K manifestations

A

k function- think muscles so if muscles dont have enough k think they wont work as well.
bradycardia
cardiac dysrthymias
shollow breath bc the chest muscles dont work that well

Q

hyper k casues

A

Shift of the K from ICF to ECF. remeber this is acidosis

renal failure- cannot get enough out in pee
hyperglemica- not enough insulin rmbr k goes into cell with glu
alot of blood transfustions
aldosterone deficit becasue alodstrone swaps K with Na in kideny and excreates K

Q

hyper K manisfestations

A

think muscle over activity - tingling of lips and fingers

Q

treatments for hyper K

A

kaexlate- via feces can cause dirreha
IV ca
bicarb bc it promotes K to move intothe cell
