Postural Stability Training Flashcards
Stability - static postural control refers to
the synergistic coordination of the nueromuscular system that enables an individual to maintain a stable position in an antigravity, WB position
Postural stability control involves
prolonged holding of core trunk and LE mm with minimal postural sway
Dynamic stabilization - controlled mobility
Prox segments provide stable base
Distal segments fixed, while proximal are moving
(weight shifts in sitting or standing)
Pts with hyperkinetic movement disorders should be progressed from
large range to small range movements and then finally to holding steady (stability control)
Dynamic stabilization - Static dynamic control
An individual maintains postural stabilty of the trunk during dynamic extremity movements
In sitting - teach neutral pelvis position
ASIS that is level of slightly lower than the PSIS
ASISs should be level
Greater degree of postural challenge with what
Higher COM and smaller BOS
Stability ball training - determining height - sittin
90 degree ankle at hips and knees
Stability ball training - determining height - supine
Height of ball should be equal to distance between greater troch and knee
Stability ball training - determining height - quadruped
height should equal distance between shoulder and wrist
Contraindicatiosn with stbaility ball
Dizzy or nauseous with movement
Extreme anxiety or fear of being on ball
