Postulates Flashcards
Define the line postulate.
Through any two points, there is exactly one line
What is a postulate?
A mathematical statement accepted without proof.
Define the plane existence postulate
Through any 3 non colinear points there is exactly one plane.
Define the point-line-plane postulate.
If two points lie on a plane, than the line containing those points lies in the same plane.
Define the line-intersection postulate.
if two lines intersects, then they intersect in exactly one point.
Define the plane-intersection postulate.
If two planes intersect, then they intersect in exactly one line.
Define the ruler postulate.
Every point on along a line can be associated with one specific numerical value.
Points on a line can be put into one-to-one correspondence with real numbers
Define the segment addition postulate.
If point R is between points P and Q, than PR + PQ = PQ
Define the protractor postulate
Given line AB and a point O on line AB, all rays that can be drawn from O can be put into one-to-one correspondence with the real numbers from 0 to 180
Define the angle addition postulate
If S is in the interior of angle PQR, then
mAngle PQS + mAngle SQR= mAngle PQR
Pythagorean Theorem
In a right triangle, the sum of the squares if the lengths of the legs is equal to the square if the length of the hypotenuse.
