Chapter 3 Theorems and Postulates Flashcards
Alternate Interior Angles Thoerem
If two parallel lines are cut by a a transversal, than their alternate interior angles are congruent
/ --------/--------- 2 / / 4 -----/----------- /
Corresponding Angles Postulate
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then corresponding angles are congruent.
Alternate Exterior Angles Theorem
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal than alternate exterior angles are congruent
Same-Side Interior Angles Theorem
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, than same-side interior angles are supplementary.
Converse of the Corresponding Angles Postulate
If two lines that are cut by a transversal so that corresponding angles are congruent then the lines are parallel
Converse of the Alternate Interior Angles Thoerem
If two lines are cut so that alternate interior angles re congruent then the two lines are parallel
Converse of the Same-Side Interior Angles Theorem
If two lines are cut by a transversal so that same-sides interior angles are supplementary than the lines are parallel
Perpendicular Transversal Theorem
In a plane, if a transversal is perpendicular to one of two parallel lines then it is perpendicular to the second
2 lines perpendicular same lines -> lines II
If 2 coplanar lines are perpendicular to the same line than they are parallel
2 intersecting lines, linear pair congruent angles -> perpendicular lines
If two intersecting lines form a linear pair of congruent angles then the lines are perpendicular.
Parallel lines theorem
In a coordinate plane 2 non-vertical lines are parallel if and only if that have the same slope
Perpendicular lines theorem
In a coordinate plane 2 non-vertical lines are perpendicular if the product of their slopes is negative one
Parallel Postulate
Through a point P on line L, there is exactly one line parallel to L
