Posterior muscles of the leg Flashcards
Function of Gluteal muscles
extension, abduction and rotation of the hip joint
Gluteal muscles with Origin and insertion
Gluteus maximus- O = gluteal surface of ilium; I = iliotibial tract
Gluteus medius- O = gluteal surface of ilium; I = greater trochanter
Gluteus minimus- O = gluteal surface of ilium; I = greater trochanter
Innervation of gluteal muscles
superior and inferior gluteal nerves
Function of hamstrings
flexion/extension of the knee
Hamstring muscles with origin and insertion
Biceps femoris- O = long head ischial tuberosity; short head linea aspera; I = head of the fibula
Semitendinosus- O = ischial tuberosity; I = anteromedial aspect of tibia
Semimembranosus- O = ischial tuberosity; I = medial condyle of tibia
Innervation of Hamstrings
Sciatic nerve
Function of Gastrocnemius
flexion of the knee and plantar flexion
Origin and insertion of the gastrocnemius
Origin- lateral head: lateral condyle of femur; medial head = medial condyle of femur
Insertion- calcaneal tendon (Achilles tendon) into calcaneus
