Q

What are the different branches of the abdominal aorta and their vetebral level?

At what vetebral level does the abdominal aorta terminate and what other landmark is located there?

A
  1. Abdominal aorta
    1. Visceral branches
      1. Unpaired
        1. Celiac trunk (T12)
        2. Superior mesenteric artery (L1)
        3. Inferior mesenteric artery (L3)
      2. Paired
        1. Middle suprarenal arteries (L1)
        2. Renal arteries (L1)
        3. Gonadal arteries (L2)
    2. Parietal branches
      1. Inferior phrenic arteries (T12)
      2. Lumbar arteries - segmental
      3. Middle sacral artery (L4)
    3. Terminal branches - common iliac arteries (L4)

Umbilical is also at L4

Q

What are some anomalies that can develop with the inferior vena cava?

A

Depends on which cardinal veins develop and which was more dominant:

  1. Double vena cava
  2. Left inferior vena cava
  3. Retrocaval ureter:

Ureter should go onto vena cava but can have go behind and problematic because can get pressure and back up kidney

Q

What are the lymphatics of the posterior abdominal wall?

A

Relevant because how you get cancers

Also if get testicular cancer, very easy to get into abdomen because follows lymphatics drainage by arterial/venous supply

Q

What is the location of the kidneys and what structures surround them?

A

Left: T12 - L2

Right: L1-L3

Right kidney is a little lower because of liver. Kidney develops in pelvis and then rises up.

17
Q

What are the different structures the right kidney is touching and why is it important to know?

A
18
Q

What are the different structures the left kidney is touching?

A
19

A
23
Q

Where are the ureters located?

What is the blood supply to the ureters?

How are the ureters innervated - sensory (including pain), and autonomics?

A
24
Q

What are some renal abnormalities that can form during development?

A
25
Q

What are the branches of the external iliac arteries?

A

External iliac arteries

  1. Inferior epigastric arteries
  2. Cremasteric branch
  3. Pubic branch
  4. Muscular branch
  5. Deep circumflex iliac arteries
26
Q

What veins drain into the inferior vena cava?

What arteries drain into the left renal vein?

A

Inferior vena cava

  1. Common iliac veins
  2. Lumbar veins
  3. Right gonadal vein
  4. Renal veins
  5. Right suprarenal vein
  6. Heaptic veins
  7. Right inferior phrenic vein

Left gonadal, suprarenal and inferior phrenic veins drain into the left renal vein
