Post-Transcription Modification Flashcards
1
Q
What is RNA splicing?
A
Post-transcription modification of RNA; allows more than one protein to be produced from one gene in eukaryotes
2
Q
Describe process of RNA splicing
A
1) Gene is transcribed, resulting in pre-MRNA
2) All introns (non coding region) and some exons (coding region) are removed
3) Remaining genes are rejoined by enzyme complexes called spliceosomes —> same exons can be joined to produce diff versions of mature functional RNA
