What to assess in post partum
BUBBLE
-Breasts (not important)
-Uterine Fundus (IMPORTANT)
-Bladded (not important)
-Bowel (not important)
-Lochia (IMPORTANT)
-Episiotomy (no big deal)
What is the Tone, Height, and Location of uterus postpartum
Tone: firm
Fundal height: pubis after delivery, navel 24 hrs after, then 2 cm for every day PP
Location: midline (catheterize if displaced left or right)
Shades of Lochia
First day PP - RUBRA (Red)
One week or so PP - SEROSA (Pink)
ALBA - White
How many pads are saturated if moderate amount of lochia
4-6 pads per hour
Best way to check for thrombophlebitis
Bilateral calf circumference measurement
Capput Saccudaneum
Crosses Sutures (CS)
Cephal hematoma
Doesn’t cross sutures
