Most common cardiovascular complication post op?
Blood pressure changes
What blood pressure is considered to be hypertensive?
Systolic>140
Diastolic> 90
Most common post op pulmonary complication? How does it present?
Atelectasis
Low grade pyrexia, tachypnea, tachycardia in the absence of infection.
Happens when the patient is too tired to cough due to severe pain. Give good analgesia and respiratory physiotherapy (force patient to cough)
Treatment of airway obstruction
Humidified O2 • Nebulized adrenaline • IV steroids • Nebulized beta agonists (eg.Ventolin) and anticholinergics
Pulmonary oedema treatment
Diuretics, oxygen, CPAP
Tension pneumothorax treatment?
Needle thoracocentesis
Treatment of convulsions?
Benziodiazapine
Thiamine for alcoholics
What scans can we do to confirm DVT or PE?
DVT: Venous Doppler
PE: Ct contrast angiography
Difference between primary, reactive and secondary intra operative bleeding?
Primary: during the surgery
Reactive: up to 24h
Secondary: up to 7-10 days post op
