greater equality between men and women, ut this leads to less stable personal relationships
what is a ‘risk society’
Beck says that since tradition has less influence and people have more choices, we become more aware of risks and rewards that come from decision making .E.g people decide what they want from relationships and if they don’t get what they want they leave
what do post modernsist believe about the types of family in society
there is not one dominant family type, there is less social pressure on people to conform to norms of what is considered appropriate or acceptable
what is the ‘chaos of love’ and who talks about it
beck and beck gernsheim- more choice and flexibility in relationships leads to more breakdowns. More flexibility around roles in adult relationships creates tensions e.g housework and childcare
what is ‘pure confluent love’
the basis of marriages- love and intimacy is what people go into marriages looking for and this can be unstable so when a relationship may not be working on this basis individuals can choose freely on what to do
