What is the main difference between post and late modernism
Post modernism believe we are in a new stage of modernity we have no prioir experience to at all

the interconnectedness of trade and cultures across the world through technological advancements.

People can tell what is real and what isn’t
Some beliefs are dangerous and offensive, need to be corrected and called out
Grand theories have been used to solve many social problems, eg feminism

Move away from church to science to find meanings

Idea that previous societies were based on the production of material goods
Postmodern societies were based on buying and selling knowledge in forms of images and signs
Signs have no relation to physical reality making it difficult for people to distinguish between image and reality - links to hyper reality. EG some films sell because of high end actors and nothing else

What is time space compression
barriers to communication and information has broken down over time creating what Strinati call “confusion over time and space”. This makes it difficult for individuals to remain one sole identity and causes hybridity with the break down of social classes and their norms.
What does the break down allow people to do
Mix and match between social groups, thus dissproving grand theories

Believe that imposing grand theories do not know - facism under hitler, marxism unde Stalin,
Believe we should share knowledge and technology in this post modern era to grow for the benefit of everyone.
Guddens 2 main features of late modernity
Disembeeding process - social relations are being lifted out of local contexts of interactions
Reflexivity - traditions and custom no longer guide us
Constantly re evaluating our actions and behaviour, making society more fragmated
Beck’s risk society
Lots more man made risks i our new society, although new science ca also be used to help prevent these risks
Ao2 - not everyone has access to prevent these risks- people living in poor countries that are being sunk
Main difference
Post modernists believe as a result of enlightenment project, not one main truth
Late modernists believe that we have some truths developed
