Top down, mainly focusing on institutions believing that is what shapes our behaviour.
Positivist prefer as research is often more quantitive
Durkheim view on the organic analogy
The body works similar to society with institutions acting as organs, due to society relying on them to perform its’ functions
Also famously studied suicide rates across Europe with quatitive data
Parsons view and 4 needs for societies
Used a systematic attempt to understand the functions of society and how it affects human behaviour
Adaptation - standard of life for all members
Goal attainment - ways of making decisions
Integration - social harmony
Latency - freedom to individual beliefs and values
