What does the post-industrial period in time begin?
1850 - after the industrial revolution
What type of social class was ‘created’ during post-industrial Britain?
Middle class. Generally people who were professionals, factory owners and managers who did not own big estates and were not born into aristocracy
What is a public school?
Educational establishment to which sons of gentlemen traditionally attended.
Which social class were more likely to be amateurs within sport?
Upper class and some middle classes as they did not need the income from sport.
Which team sport split into two forms in 1895 due to social classes mixing whilst playing?
Rugby into rugby union and rugby league

The Forster Act was passed in 1870, but what was it all about?
This was the first education act and was the beginning of the national state system of education
In 1891 with education act was reformed, what was the significance?
Elementary education became effectively free to everyone
How many hours a week would the working class work during this time period?
Approximately 72 hours. Leaving little time and energy for sport
What happened on a Saturday during this time period?
Workers were given half days, this was to encourage participation in sport….often a work based team. Managers realised the benefits of sport on well-being of their workforce

Middle classes
