Q

The following illustrates this form of Post-Acute care: Maria is an 87 y/o with no formal diagnosis, but her thinking and memory have been declining over the last year. Maria’s son, Miguel, has been trying to assist as best as he can. About a year ago, Miguel would come once a week for tending to the yard work, groceries, and taking out the trash. During the last three months, Miguel has had to stop by more frequently as his mother’s safety and initiation skills have been declining. Miguel knows that his mother needs more help but his mother becomes very upset when he attempts to discuss a new living situation. Miguel has found a good compromise, which would provide a respite stay during work hours (M-F, 9am-3pm) but still allow Maria to live at home.
