The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain because in addition to a large population of workers, they had extensive natural resources.
What were the advantages and disadvantages with the factory system?
Advantages of the factory system were that it required capital investments and it was located near sources of power. Disadvantages were that it had a rigid schedule, dangerous, and had no job security.
How did the steam engine impact the Industrial Revolution?
The steam engine resulted in the creation of semi-automated factories, and it increased goods production in places where water power was not available.
How did the “haves” and the “have-not’s” experience the Industrial Revolution
The “have-not’s” did not experience the Industrial Revolution very well, they worked in unsafe conditions for many hours a day. The “haves” however, had a great increase of wealth.
What were the main ideas of Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, and David Ricardo?
Adam Smith proposed a concept that describes how individuals acting in their own self-interest within a free market can unintentionally contribute to the greater good of society (the invisible hand theory).Thomas Malthus’s main ideas were that population growth will always outpace food supply, therefore the poor should have fewer children. David Ricardo believed that employers should not pay their workers any more than absolutely necessary.
How did government assist with industrialization? Why would they?
Government assisted with OIL- overseas expansion, infrastructure, and legal support. They helped because it created jobs and revenue made their nations wealthier, and it contributed to military strength.
