Position most frequently used, ideal for head, neck, extremities, abdomen and thorax
Supine or dorsal recumbent
Supine position with the head and body lower than the feet ideal for surgeries involving pelvis and lower abdomen
Trendelenburg
Position involves the patent supine with the head above the feet and utilized in head, neck, and upper abdomen surgeries
Reverse trendelenburg
Position is a variant of supine position and involves legs in surgical stirrups to raise and abduct them, genitalia, pelvic region, and perineum surgeries
Lithotomy
Position in which patient is prone but is hinged downward at the hips used in proctological surgeries, only used if necessary
Jackknife position
Position where patient is on their abdomen and used in surgeries involving back, spinal region, posterior extremities and rectum
Prone
Position where patient is placed onto their side, used in retroperitoneal, kidney, thoracic and hip surgeries
Lateral position
Position used in breast, neck, nasopharyngeal, facial, cranial surgeries
