Hemostasis Flashcards
Process of stopping bleeding or control hemorrhage
Hemostasis
Mechanical method of hemostasis includes
Applying pressure
Mechanical way to provide hemostasis produced from beeswax and applied directly to vessels relating to boney areas
Bone wax
This way of hemostasis utilizes heat to coagulate blood and seal vessels
Thermal
Examples of thermal hemostasis
Electrocautery, laser therapy, thermal coagulation
This way of hemostasis uses agents or medications
Chemical
A topical hemostat that controls bleeding in capillaries
Thrombin
This pad absorbs blood while creating a coagulating gel at site
Oxidized cellulose
This form of hemostasis is applied topically such as epinephrine or phenol
Styptic agents
This is utilized in powder or a pad to stop capillary bleeding
Fibrin gelatin
This form of hemostasis is used mainly with ligation methods
Permanent
This is utilized in hard to get areas where manual tying would be difficult
Vascular staples
At aneurysm sites to prevent further breakdown of vessel walls
Aneurysm glue
Larger vessels must be cut permanently with silk or vicryl
Suture ligature
A form of suture ligature that the surgeon will occlude the vessel by securing a surgical knot front and back of where vasculature has been clamped
Free tie
Type of suture ligature that is for superficial vasculature where the surgeon pulls suture materials off a reel and manually ties the knot
Reel
