Legal Definition Of Position Of Trust and the offence which comes with it
It is an offence for someone over the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity with someone under the age where they are in a position of trust. A person of trust is someone of which holds authority over a person.

Who are most vunerable?
Being in a care home, or in a residential care or fostered
Being in full time education in which the older person is involved in caring for them
Being in a hospital, children’s home or residential establishment that cares for children with physical or learning disabilities, mental illness or behavioural problems
How adults in POT may use power and influence to abuse children and young people (5)
-Using their influence to exploit a child or young person for their own benefit.
-Adults may look at sensitive information, which they are not entitled to do, in order to find out more about the child or young person for their own advantage
-Manipulating a child or young person by controlling them and using their position to get what they want
- Using verbal abuse in ways that make the child or young person feel humiliated or bullied.
-Threatening a child or young person by telling them that they will punish them if they do not do what they have asked them
How adults in POT may use their power and influence to abuse children (5)
-Taking advantage of them
-Gain unauthorised access to private or sensitive information for their own or others advantage
-Manipulate an indiviual
-Use a position of trust to bully, humiliate or undermine
-Threaten punishment for non-compliance with unreasonable demands
The range of indicators that an adult in a setting may have inappropriate relationship with children and young people (4)
-Overly affectionte, giving gifts, favouritsim or prefrences
-Spending alone time with child
-Making friends with young persons family/vsiting them at home
-Using private texts to communicate with young person out of setting
Appropriate actions to take when safeguarding concern
-Observing and recording as appropriate
-Following organisational policies and procedures for child protection
-Following procedures set out by the local safeguarding partnership -includes what to do outside office hours
-Following accurate lines of reporting in a timely manner
-Maintaining professional boundaries
-Contacting the police if a child or young person is in immediate danger
