Tiredness and Hunger
-V common
-Often become restless, hyperactive and have more tantrums and outbursts.
- Tiredness and hunger make it harder for children to self-regulate and manage their emotions.
Seperation
-Separation and different environments can cause children to become stressed.
-Loud noises, busy and overcrowded environments can lead to children displaying unwanted behaviour.
Changes to routine
-Routines and knowing what to expect provide children with a sense of security.
-Routines will help children with their self-regulation, as they know what to expect.
-Most children find it hard to cope when there are changes to their routine, children can become overexcited or anxious.
-Being out of a routine can also make falling asleep harder, causing the child to become tired.
Attachment and emotional security
-When a child’s parent or main attachment is not present, they may display separation anxiety (unless they are with a key person whom they have a strong attachment with)
-If a child does not have a secure attachment in setting, they may display negative behaviours such as aggression and withdrawal.
Planned or unplanned transition
-Children may encounter significant changes in their lives which may not be planned, such as a family breakdown or bereavement.
-They may display a range of behaviours that are linked to anxiety.
Safeguarding needs
-Some behaviours that young children show may be linked to safeguarding needs.
-Children may be seeking attention or displaying negative behaviours that they see as ‘normal’ behaviour. -Children may also be tired, hungry or could be witnessing stressful events.
