What port is used for HTTP
Port 80
What is the number range of usable ports
Between 0 and 65,535
Ports 0 to 1023 are assigned by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)
Well-Known Ports
Ports 1024 to 49151 are usually assigned to proprietary protocols
Registered Ports
- Ports 49152 to 65535 can be used by any application without being
registered with IANA - Commonly used for gaming, instant
messaging, and chat
Dynamic or Private Ports
o Ports 20, 21
o Provides insecure file transfers
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
o Port 22
o Provides secure remote control of another machine using
a text-based environment
Secure Shell (SSH)
o Port 22
o Provides secure file transfers
Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
o Port 23
o Provides insecure remote control of another machine
using a text-based environment
Telnet
o Port 25
o Provides the ability to send emails over the network
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

o Converts domain names to IP addresses, and IP address
to domain names
Domain Name Service (DNS)
o Ports 67, 68
o Automatically provides network parameters such as
assigned IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and
the DNS server

o Used for insecure web browsing

o Used for receiving incoming emails

o Used for file or printer sharing in a Windows network

their status

o Used to provide directory services to your network
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
o Port 443
o Used as a secure and encrypted version of web browsing
