Mouth
Mouth (portal of entry)
- Pathogens enter via ingestion from contaminated food/drinks
- Can survive stomach pH & enzyme activity
Portal of entry for Genitourinary tract
- Vagina & Urethra

- Pathogens enter by direct sexual contact
- Through abrasions, tears, & placenta(during pregnancy)

- Pathogens enter through broken skin, hair follicles, & sweat ducts
Parenteral Route
A complete breach of the skin barrier by needle injection, puncture wounds, and; insect bites (Microbe gets injected directly into the bloodstream)

Bacteria: 1. Staphylococcus sp. 2. Streptococcus sp. 3. Clostridium tetani (tetanus) Viruses: 1. Herpes simplex type 1 (cold sores) 2. Human papillomavirus (skin warts)
