Control

A
  • lifelong immunity once exposed
  • – can be pockets of naive animals in large herds
  • maternal antibody persists for 7 months
  • – vaccination important to prevent waning of herd immunity (cyclical infection every 3-4 years)
  • – gilts most important (<50% may be immune at the point of mating)
  • – vaccinate prior to mating (~3 weeks)
  • no effective treatment
