Indicate destination

Show the purpose of an object

Indicate the recipient of something
El regalo es para María.
“In order to”
Para aprender español, tienes que estudiar mucho.
Express a deadline
El proyecto es para el lunes.
Por or Para
The main thing to remember when trying to decide which of these prepositions to use is: is this is process or an end result. In the examples above, we see that the process of buying a present for someone else uses “por.” Whereas, the gift’s final destination (i.e. the end result of buying the gift) is shown with “para.”
