What is population.
Population is whole number of humans living in a particular country or region.
What is a resource
Zimmermann’s defines resource as: “The word resource does not refer to a thing or a. substance but to a function which a thing or a substance may perform or to an operation in which it may take part, namely, the function or operation of attaining a given end such as satisfying a want.
Resource refers to all the materials available in our environment which are technologically accessible, economically feasible and culturally sustainable and help us to satisfy our needs and wants.
what is an Optimum population
Optimum population has been defined as the size of population enabiling hifghest per capita income/output accompanied by highest possible standard of living under a given set of economical and technological conditions.
Optimum population has been said to be the ideal population in a given region, even a minor change in population will cause a decline in the output.
This theory was first given/hinted by Confucius.
Under-Population
Under-Population is recognized when there are more resource in an area than can be used by the people living there. It’s a region whose potential is not fully realized and it’s resouces are not fully exploited.
ATTEMPTS TO ADDRESS UNDER-POPULATION :
1] Improving communication network and transport facilities
2] Establishment of new capitals.
3] Regional Development Programme
Over-Population
It is a condition when the inhabitants number exceeds the carrying capacity of a particular region. This can result from high birth rates, decline in mortality rates, immigration, etc.
A region which is over-populated its resouces are over-exploited.

B] European Type : 1/6 Population - Technologically Rich - High Population/Resource Relationship
C] Egyptian Type : 1/2 Population - Technologically Deficient - High Population/Resource Relationship
D] Brazilian Type : 1/6 Population - Technologically Deficient - Low Population/Resource Relationship
E] Artic-Desert Type : Inhabitable - Technologically Deficient.
