Population Density Flashcards
What is population density?
Population density tells us how many people are living in each square mile
What is population distribution?
The spread out of people in an area is called population distribution
Physical Factors affecting population density and distribution?
Food/water supply Good roads Flat land Good soil Good climate
Human factors effecting population distribution?
Too hot or cold Lack of interest Steep slopes Dense forests Poor soil
How to calculate the population density?
Total population divided by area km2=number per kl2
Positive/negative reasons for low population density?
Positive- more job opportunities, less taxes, more housing opportunities.
Negative- less communication, access to amenities.
Positive/negative reasons for high population density?
Positive- more access to necessities, more communication.
Negative- high taxes, hard to get jobs, hard to get a house.
Physical /human reasons for low population density?
Physical-too hot/cold, dense forests, steep slopes.
Human-few jobs,lack of interest,lack of investment.
Physical/human reasons for high population density?
Physical-good climate, good roads, good food/water.
Human-good jobs, good healthcare,good resources.
Describe and explain population density?
Population density tells u how many people are living in each square mile. EG-high population density=los Angeles
EG-low population density=Sahara density
