  • more elderly people who are living in poverty
  • even though state pension is low, government are struggling to pay it
  • health services are under pressure

How did the UK become an aging population?

A

-the increasing life expectancy
- dropping birth rates as women are having children later on in life so can have a job first
- people are living longer as advances in medicine
- lots of babies born 1940-1960s (baby boom)
These people are now retiring (pension boom)
