Migrants planned to move north eg UK and Germany however their were barriers to movement eg physical barriers- southern borders of Hungary
Political- Countries imposed caps on number of people entering eg Austria
What was the issues involving refugee status
Application process was slow this meant number of people in refugee camps were overwhelming in places such as lesbos (96,000) where applications were being processed before they could move onto the mainland.

- The poor conditions make it more likely or may encourage migrants to join extremist movements .
- People had to sleep with their valuables in their pockets to avoid being robbed

Many who were living in Greece’s northern borders were living in unsanitary conditions or in crowded camps which are too small
There can be up to 30 people cramped in tiny shelters crammed in tiny shelters made from shipping containers including babies.

Uncontrolled inflow of mirants puts pressure on Greek tourism eg a hotel owner mentions how the migrants are causing damage to the hotel as clients see this situation, they speak of didease and dirt and they are right. clients say they wont come back again

Anti immigration sentiments are growing. Many racist attacks on migrants by supporters of neo Nazi golden down party
