Population And patterns In Human Settlement 4 Flashcards
What is population density?
Population density is the average for a country of how many people live in a square kilometer (or mile) of land.
Sparse population density?
Sparse population density has 14 or less people per kilometer2. Has small population in comparison to the land area.
Moderate population density?
Moderate population density have 15-149 people per kilometer2. Has medium population size in comparison to land area.
Dense population density?
Dense population density has 150 or more people per kilometer2. Has small land area in comparison to large population.
How do you calculate population density
Dividing the population of a country by its area (km2)
What can you say about countries with high vs low population densities?
Where there is a higher population density in an area this means that there are usually good resources, job opportunities, or living spaces. But when there is a low population density this means that there is not that good of resources or opportunities making it a sub-optimal place to live.
