Population And patterns In Human Settlement 3 Flashcards
What is population distribution?
A pattern that shows where people live. You can describe these patterns by linear, scattered, or clustered.
Scattered population and why?
A population pattern where there are few people that are spread across a large area. Northern regions in Canada have a scattered population. This is because the cold climate creates suboptimal living conditions for most people.
Linear population and why?
A linear population pattern occurs in areas where the population is distributed in a linear manner. This happens because people have settled along water or major railways because of their economic and transport befits.
Clustered population and why?
A clustered population is when many people live in a small region. This usually happens because there is a large amount of resources and opportunities such as body’s of water, job opportunities, and living spaces which can house millions of people in such a small area.
A linear settlement
Linear Settlement is when settlement has been established in a line like pattern, which most often occurs along major waterways.
A scattered settlement
Scattered settlements are established in areas where living conditions make it difficult to support large amounts of people as result of poor weather, highland, resources, ect.
A clustered settlement
Clustered settlements are when settlements have been established very close together, with many people living together.
