Population density
how people are spread out, either densely or sparsely populated
Natural increase
birth rate - death rate
Doubling Time
it is the number of years needed for a population to double in size. It is found by dividing 70 years by the rate of natural increase (in %). It is expressed in years.
Population Momentum
it is the tendency for a population to grow despite a fall in birth rate or fertility levels
Population Projections
these are predictions about future population based on trends in fertility, mortality and migration.
Forced migration
This is a person who has been forced to flee their home area
Pull factors
These factors attract a person to an area
Refugee
This occurs when an individual is forced to move area, in many cases to ensure their own survival.
Illegal immigrant
This is an individual that has moved to a country in which they are not legally allowed to be.
Voluntary (economic) migration
This occurs when an individual makes the decision to move area to improve their living standards.
Push factors
These factors encourage a person to leave an area
Asylum seeker
Someone who is seeking the legal status of a refugee
Internally displaced person
someone who is forced to flee their home and move into another region in the same country
Illegal migration
The migration of people into a country illegally
Development Displaces
people who are compelled to move due to policies in the country
Environmental and Disaster Displaces
move due to the actions of the environment
Smuggled People:
moved illegally for profit.
Trafficked People
Moved by deception. They are used for the purpose of exploitation and profit
Mega city
A city with a population of over 10 million
Life expectancy
The amount of time on average someone in a country is predicted to live
Birth rate
the number of births per 1000 people
Death rate
number of people that died per year per 1000
Fertility rate
number of babies per 1000 women

natural reasons for migration, e.g the physical landscape
Human factors
The impact of the people living in the area. e.g the prospect of a higher standard of life
