An official count of the population. It may hold details such as ethnicity, occupation and age.

Road, rail and air travel.

The cutting down of trees and forests to allow a different land use.

Shows the relationship between the percentage of dependent citizens (and children) in a country and the working age population.
Dependency ratio
A country that has little industry and lacks access to healthcare or education.
Developing country
A country where people have high standards of living.

A group of European countries initially formed to remove trade barriers and reduce potential for war within Europe. Citizens of member states have the right to move freely to any other member state to work.

Migration between two different countries.
External migration
An extreme lack of food that leads to large numbers of people starving to death.

People move because they have no choice.
Forced migration
A person who arrives from another country.
Immigrant
The basic structures needed for an area to function, for example roads and communications.
Infrastructure
Migration within a country.
Internal migration
The movement of people from one place to another, involving permanent change of residence. It can be voluntary or compulsory (forced).

When land cannot sustain the number of animals that are feeding from it.
