Population
The number of people living in a particular area.
Densely populated
When the population of an area is described as DENSELY populated there are lots of people in one area.
Sparsely populated
When the population is described as SPARSELY populated there are few people in one area.
Birth rate
number of births per 1000 people per year
Death rate
number of deaths per 1000 people per year
Natural Increase
The difference between birth rates and death rates (birth rate take away death rate)
Life Expectancy
The length of time on average that people can expect to live until in a particular country
Demographic Transition Model
shows how population in a country changes over time
Forced Migrant
Some one who is not able to stay in their country
Refugee
People who flee a country because of persecution (e.g. race, religion, nationality, political opinion).
Asylum seeker
Someone who is seeking a place of safety in another country, who has applied for protection as a refugee
and is waiting for the authorities to decide their status.
Reasons for refugees
- War
- Violence
- Feel Unsafe
- Anxious and confused
- Don’t want to leave home and friends
- Worried they wont understand the language
- They will never truly belong to one country

More middle aged than any other aged group
Low death rate
Poor population pyramid
High birth rate

More Children and infants than any other age group

the world population was around 1 billion in the year 1800 and is now, at around 8 billion, 8 times larger
