Thesis: define popular culture
The term “Popular culture” was coined in the 19th centruy, and is an aspect of society that involves certain practises and beliefs. This notion appeals to the majority of the population to create large scale acceptance, understanding and experience.
Intro.1: define crime dramas as a form of popular culture
Crime dramas, as a form of popular culture, have become an established narrative genre across various platforms - incorporating space for debates on policing, criminality, gener, race & social and cultural values.
Intro.2: cause & effect of crime drama
Crime dramas explore the aspects of the law enforcement through the development of sub-plots and relationships between characters within their shows, such as Law & order:SVU (1999) and Criminal minds (2005), using the popularity of this platform, crime dramas reflect changing societal values - particularly in regards to social issues surrounding gender and culture
Intro.3: Research methods
Through the research methodology of content analysis - being both a qualitative and quantitative - used to gather, tally and interpret evaluative conclusions, can showcse the differences between episodes and themes across time. Finally, providing an understanding of the nature of crime drama within popular culture, and whether it meets the criterieas associated with commercial products and paraphernalia, developement from a local to global level, achieving widespread consumer access and constantly changing and evolving
